Benchmark General Contractors has begun construction on the third and final building at By the Sea Condominiums, marking one of the first new condominium developments on Sanibel Island in nearly 25 years. The $22 million project includes three buildings with six units each, elevated living spaces, and modern coastal‑resilient design.
Benchmark is managing the full exterior and interior construction through drywall, with completion expected by the end of 2027. The redevelopment follows significant damage from Hurricane Ian and represents a major milestone in the island’s long‑term recovery. Local officials, project partners, and community members joined Benchmark at the March 18 groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the next phase of progress on West Gulf Drive.
