History
Building Excellence Since 1984
Benchmark General Contracting has been a trusted name in the construction industry since its establishment in 1984 by Mark Anderson. From its humble beginnings as a “niche” general contracting firm, Benchmark quickly emerged as a reputable player in handling a diverse range of construction projects. With a comprehensive portfolio that includes residential remodeling, new home construction, commercial remodeling, new commercial construction, and small multi-family construction, we have consistently delivered outstanding results for over three decades.
Under Mark’s visionary leadership, Benchmark forged a path of success by completing over a thousand residential and commercial projects of various sizes throughout Lee County. Throughout the years, our dedicated staff has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in critical areas such as local permitting procedures, floodplain construction, windstorm protection, and the implementation of sustainable and green technologies. This expertise has allowed us to tackle complex projects while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
In 2021, Benchmark welcomed Brad Nickel as our new President, marking an exciting chapter in our company’s history. With an extensive background and experience in healthcare, commercial, and residential construction, Brad brings a fresh perspective and a remarkable skill set to the team. His time in the Air Force, educational background in building construction, and certification as a healthcare constructor perfectly position him to lead our company towards continued excellence.

With remarkably low employee turnover, our dedicated team members have been instrumental in upholding our reputation for quality craftsmanship and exceptional customer service. The average tenure of our ten employees is over thirteen years, exemplifying the loyalty and expertise that define our company culture.

Brad Nickel
President
With his extensive background and experience in healthcare, commercial, and residential construction, Brad proudly assumed the role of president at Benchmark General Contracting in 2021. He is already working to continue building on the strong legacy of excellence that he inherited. Brad brings tremendous proficiency to the team between his time in the Air Force, studying building construction in college, and becoming a certified healthcare constructor. Brad is a seasoned leader having already been involved in over $600 million worth of healthcare construction ranging from ground up construction to the phased interior renovations of multiple healthcare facilities. From project management to business development and writing estimates, his functions are currently widespread as the team continues to expand. Brad’s passion lies in seeing two-dimensional drawings built to life; helping companies and homeowners realize their visions. With an understanding that there are numerous internal and external parties necessary to completing a project efficiently and on time, Brad values and appreciates his teams and recognizes that they are all a part of what makes Benchmark the preferred builder in Southwest Florida.
Mark M. Anderson
Executive President
Mark Anderson founded Benchmark in 1984. Benchmark was formed as a “niche” general contracting firm to handle a variety of general contracting functions to include residential remodeling, new home construction, commercial remodeling, new commercial construction, and small multi-family construction. In the last twenty-five years, Benchmark has completed over one thousand residential and commercial projects of all sizes throughout Lee County. Over the years, the staff at Benchmark has developed a wealth of knowledge in such areas as local permitting procedures and processes, floodplain construction, windstorm protection and the use and implementation of sustainable and green technologies. Having very little employee turnover, Benchmark enjoys the advantage of maintaining a strong, efficient, and well-rounded staff. Most employees have been with Benchmark for extended periods of service, the average employment term of its ten employees being just over thirteen years. In addition to working with their typical high end residential and commercial clientele, Benchmark has worked over the years on many public and institutional projects such as a 14 unit below market housing project for Community Housing Resources on Sanibel Island and the Ronald McDonald House at Health Park. Mark has been actively involved in numerous local charities and philanthropic organizations during his entire professional career.
